Getting a facial for the first time may be scary for some and soothing for others. For me, it was very relaxing due to the fact I already had an idea of what a facial would be like. I knew that my face would be cleansed, moisturized, and an extraction would occur. What I did not know was the amount of facial care and advice my esthetician was going to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience from beginning to end. What did my first facial experience entail? Well first let’s start with the basics, everyone should get a facial at least once in their lifetime, not because of the ways it relaxes you, but most importantly it will show you ways on how you can improve your skin.
I arrived at Elise Esthetics Institute and was greeted by Que, an esthetician student. She brought out a dermalogica facial consultation form for me to sign so she can get better acquainted with my skin. Once I signed the form she handed me a basket that contained white slippers and a white towel/robe. Once I finished undressing I walked over to the bed and was instructed to lay on my stomach for the back facial. My back was prepped and sprayed down with a toner for the exfoliation to begin. After the exfoliation a warm towel was pressed gently to get rid of the excess dirt and oils. A cool gel was lathered on my back as a cooling agent. Luckily I didn’t have extractions or peeling that needed to be done. Once the back facial was done. I was instructed to turn over on my back for the regular facial to begin.
Since this was my first facial, I was overwhelmed with relaxation and comfort and the nervousness I had earlier quickly diminished. The first part of the facial process is a pre-cleanse, and that’s where the esthetician will examine your skin and ask questions about the products you use and the sensitivity of your skin. A pre-cleanse gel is placed on your skin and to remove all dirt and impurities. Steam is placed on the skin quickly afterwards to prep your skin to remove dead skin cells and hydrate the skin before an extraction occurs. Steam can be used multiple times during the facial. After the steam takes place, the exfoliation begins. This was my favorite part, especially since it feels like a massage on your face. A warm towel was wrapped around my face to wipe away the excess exfoliation gel. Another set of steaming took place right before the extraction. To be honest, the extraction wasn’t painful as I thought it would have been. Que extracted my blackheads with her hands. Some estheticians use an extraction tool, but I was informed by Que that the tool could cause scarring on the skin. There were only a a few extractions on my skin since I have a thorough skincare regime. After the extraction, another warm towel was placed on my face followed by a cooling gel. I went back to the bathroom and changed back into my clothes.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my facial. I was told the best time to get a facial is very 28-40 days since that’s the average time it takes for new skin cells to grow. I have a new appreciation for taking better care of my skin and will implement facials into it.If you’re interested in becoming an esthetician or learning more about our program, please email us at email@example.com or call us at 407-998-7896.
